KSA was founded in 1994 as a spin-off of the Institute of Metal Forming (IBF) at Aachen University. Use of Shot as a Tool
Following a development and qualification phase for MT Aerospace AG and EADS Astrium N.V., we began peen forming tank segments and cone panels for the European space launcher Ariane 5 on a contract basis in 1999.
In 2001, KSA was awarded certification for controlled shot peening and automation solutions in accordance with the DIN EN 9100:2003 standard.
Since 2001, we have been responsible for reshaping laser-beam-welded fuselage shells for Airbus using automated peen forming.
In 2004, we began working jointly with Rolls-Royce Germany Ltd & Co. KG on the development of our ISIC ® - System for on-line process control.
Since 2004, we have also been cooperating with Aerosphere Inc. Canada on the development of automated peen forming technology for aircraft wing skins (APF4WINGS).
In 2006, KSA started producing tank bulkheads in large quantities for the first and second cryogenic stages of the Ariane 5 launcher.
KSA expanded its production capacity in 2008 by investing in a flexible, robot-operated workstation for a variety of peening applications using shot of 0.3 - 4 mm in diameter.
To date, we have peen formed more than 3000 components for the aerospace industry in Aachen as a contract service and over 1000 panels as an automation solution on-site for Airbus.
